French Spring Festival Starts In Kyiv In April

The 13th annual French Spring festival starts on the 2nd of April in Kyiv on European Square (metro Maidan Nezalezhnosti, blue line). French Spring festival is one of the most remarkable cultural events in Ukraine, dedicated to the French culture. This year two small eskimos Anooki will open the festival. The 3D outdoor light show “Les Anooki” will be projected on the façade of the Ukrainsky Dim (Ukrainian house) exhibition center. The final part of the show will be supported by a Ukrainian music band Dakh Daughters. 13 minutes shows start on 8:30pm and 9:30pm. Unlike the previous years, the show will be comedic.

The festival organizers plan to introduce Ukrainians to various modern French cultural creations, such as a new French cinema, classical and rap music concerts and mime performances. There will be also several photo and art exhibitions.

In February, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko has held a meeting with French Ambassador to Ukraine Isabelle Dumont, during which the sides discussed preparations for the 13th annual French Spring festival on the European Squire in Kyiv.

“The French Spring Festival is a very important cultural project for Kyiv, that’s why we support your initiatives and guarantee full support and assistance,” Klychko said.

Besides Kyiv, the French Spring festival will be held in Lviv, Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv.

Last year, an outdoor light show, entitled “I Am a Dream” (“JE SUIS RÊVE”) took place on Sofyiska Square in Kyiv. The façades of the bell tower and main building of the Saint Sophia’s Cathedral were used to show pictures and images of the key events and symbols of the Revolution of Dignity, which took place in Ukraine late in 2013 – early in 2014, and other important, history-changing developments in Ukraine in the past year (Unian).
